Referring to the first portrait of Sara. The light is to the side of the model and up above her coming down onto her. This lighting effect created shadows on certain areas on the side of her face that allow you o se details on her face. The shadow also blocks her whole neck. The model is facing to the right, only showing the side of her face. She is almost completely facing to the side but also partially turned towards the camera. The photo was taken eye level with the model and horizontally. It was also taken fairly close to her, but not so close that you can't see the background. The lighting, position, and expression on the face expresses a feeling of something ominous and quiet. The model's personality is shown by her expression, she seems to be very calm. Also how not much else is going on beyond the model makes the picture seem quiet and calm, just like Sara can be. One of the other pictures in the set that is very different from this one is the first picture of Emily with the camera. That picture shows slightly more personality because it has a prop in it. Also the bracelets on the model bring color into the picture and make it seem more upbeat. This picture shows a model in a more natural state by being able to play with the prop. The position of this picture is again dead on eye level to the model, but this time the model is facing the camera.
Double Exposure
Each double exposure has a portrait inside of them. But the overlaid images are different for each. The first has a reflection of a house and tree taken in a garage window. The second is a city seen taken in Providence on a rainy day. And the third has another portrait on top of it. Each photo in each single shot merge together. The side of the face and glasses in the first blends in with the trees in the first. In the second, the eye lines up with the spire on the building and the camera lines up with the people on the street below. Lastly, the grey portrait looks as if it is hiding like a ghost behind the original colored photo. To unify the images, an image was laid on top of one and then the opacity was modified. Then and eraser tool was used in order to bring forward details or get rid of portions in order to merge them better. All three photos look curious and enchanting yet dark and macomb.
